Arborvitae (Thuja plicata) is from the wood of the Western Red Cedar Wood tree. It has an a woody, earthy, and warm aroma. Because Arborvitae is extremely potent, and has a powerful aroma along with heavy pigmentation, it should be highly diluted to prevent staining*.
This oil’s primary constituent is Methyl thujate, and it is popular for promoting clear and healthy looking skin when applied topically. Arborvitae is a powerful cleansing oil, making it an ideal addition to home-made cleansing recipes. This oil has traditionally been used as a wood preservative and can also be used as a natural insect repellent.
*Please note, depending on which part of the Thuja plicata tree is distilled, the bark or the leaves, the essential oil will have a different color and properties. The EO we offer is distilled from the wood and is red in color. Whereas, a distillation of the leaves (which we do not carry) will result in an oil that is light in color.

Six essential oils (from oregano, thyme, clove, lavender, clary sage, and arborvitae) exhibited different antibacterial and antifungal properties. Antimicrobial activity was shown against pathogenic and environmental bacteria and fungi. Oregano, thyme, clove and arborvitae showed very strong antibacterial activity against all tested strains at both full strength and reduced concentrations. These essential oils showed different fungistatic and fungicidal activities when tested by direct application and in the vapor phase.

I really wanted to try this out because I heard it was great for keeping mosquitoes away. Then I found other great uses! I heard it was great for the skin so I added some to my face serum. It's also great for keeping those nasty germs away. It's very dark in color and a little thick. Didn't diffuse easily in my diffuser but I still like it.
