Loving Life – Even with Arthritis

Arthritis pain can be crippling. Those suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) or Osteoarthritis (OA) often experience constant pain throughout the day–pain that can suck the fun out of days that would otherwise be enjoyable. While man-made painkillers can be helpful in numbing Arthritis pain, taking them constantly throughout the day can be unhealthy, can result in reduced effectiveness over time, and in the worst cases, can lead to addiction. Luckily for those suffering from Arthritis, there are many natural remedies to help reduce the daily pain. These holistic treatments, in combination with treatments recommended by professionals, can help those with Arthritis pain live without constant pain.

Herbal Supplements

Herbal supplements are a great, natural way to to help ease Arthritis Pain. There are number of herbs which can help reduce swelling and soothe aching joints. A simple tea of Stinging Nettle, Turmeric, or Frankincense can help put discomfort caused by RA or OA to rest. [1] Fish Oil, with its omega-3 fatty acids has significant anti-inflammatory properties, and is much easier on the stomach than most modern medicines.

When using any alternative medicine it’s always a good idea to check with a doctor before diving in. Some treatments may interfere with prescription medicines, and checking with a professional will help ensure that your treatments don’t overlap.

Exercise

Numerous studies have shown that exercise has a positive impact on various aspects of life- and it’s no different with arthritis pain. Regular physical exercise has been shown to reduce stress and inflammation, as well as promote dopamine production in the body. [2] Exercise can also lead directly into another reliable source of relief from joint pain–weight loss.

Weight Loss

Arthritis causes pain in the joints, and when greater pressure is placed on these joints, the pain increases. It follows logically then that reducing the amount of pressure (or weight) put on these joints will decrease pain. The main way to do this is by reducing body weight. Those with arthritis pain in weight bearing joints, such as the knees, hips, or spine, have found that losing weight greatly reduced the discomfort they experienced each day. [3]
