Store in a covered or dark, airtight container in the refrigerator or cool area for longest shelf life.
Aging
Juniper Berry oil reduces enzyme activity involved in dissolving elastin which may help prevent aging of the skin.
Analgesic
The dominant monoterpenes are noted for their analgesic, antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory actions, supporting the use of Juniper Berry essential oil for alleviating pain and inflammation. Akkol et al. (2009) demonstrated that Juniper Berry oil has remarkable anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities.
Antibacterial
In vitro research suggests that juniper oil inhibits S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. The authors concluded that inhalation of juniper oil may be useful for chronic and/or recurrent upper respiratory tract infections.
Antifungal
Some of the dominant components, such as α-pinene, have good antifungal (anti-yeast) activity
Fractions with a high α-pinene content, or high α-pinene plus sabinene, displayed good antimicrobial actions, especially antifungal activity.
Juniper oil inhibits several dermatophyte (fungi that requirekeratin for growth and typically infect the skin, hair, and nails) and Candida species in vitro.
Antihypercholesterolemic (lowers high cholesterol)
Anti-Inflammatory
Juniper berry oil helps decrease inflammation by moderately inhibiting the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) enzyme that is involved in the inflammation response according to in vitro research.
Antimicrobial
Gliŝić et al. (2007) found that although Juniper Berry has weak antimicrobial activity, fractions with a high α-pinene content, or high α-pinene plus sabinene, displayed good antimicrobial actions, especially antifungal activity.
Tests of two S. aureus and P. aeruginosa clinical strains and two ATCC strains (S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853) showed that both E. smithii and J. communis essential oils interfere with the starting phases of biofilm production(known to be important factors underlying their virulence and pathogenicity), as well as with mature biofilms. The results of this study reveal new relevant perspectives for a complementary inhalatory treatment of chronic and/or recurrent upper respiratory tract infections.
The oils[leaf and berry] showed high activity against most of the tested strains.
The chemical composition of J. communis from east part of Kosova. J. communis was active against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Hafnia alvei except Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is resistant to J. communis
Antioxidant
Juniper Berry essential oil has good antioxidant activity.
In vitro research suggests that Juniper oil possesses antioxidant properties.
Juniper Berry is a strong antioxidant
Antiseptic
Said by German authorities that the tea is diuretic and urinary antiseptic
Diabetic Complications
The evidence from this study suggests that essential oils obtained from the fruits and branchlets of J. communis subsp. hemisphaerica possess anti-glycation properties. These activities may find implication for the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications.
