Description
L-Theanine is an amino acid found primarily in teas made from the Camellia sinensis plant, such as green or black tea. It can elevate levels of GABA, serotonin, and dopamine (known as neurotransmitters) which can result in a calming, stabilizing effect. This is because they regulate moods, emotions, alertness, sleep, concentration, appetite, energy, and cognitive skills. L-Theanine has been researched in a wide range of human and animal studies which suggest it can reduce anxiety and stress, improve cognitive function, enhance attention, aid sleep, as an antidepressant, among other uses, likely because of its ability to elevate the body’s calming neurotransmitter levels.
Known as an anxiolytic (reduces anxiety), most people who take L-Theanine do so for its relaxing influence. They often take doses between 50 & 200mg and report they generally feel calmer within 30-40 minutes, for about 8-10 hours. A dose of 200mg once or twice a day is common for many with moderate to severe anxiety.

I often use theanine like a fire extingusher. You know how extingushers are in a wall cabinet that says, “break glass in an emergency.” Well, when I am starting to feel (or know I will shortly be feeling) acute stress (like extended family showing up for dinner), I pop one of these and all is calm. It’s also great to use on the daily for the chronically overstressed.
