Peppermint is one of the oldest documented and most well established medicinal plants. Add a drop to water to aid digestion, help with belly aches, and relieve gas. Add to your favorite hair products for a rejuvenating boost while cleansing the scalp and reducing dandruff. Peppermint blends well and is a great way to get a minty fresh, mental boost.
Add a drop to palms, cover nose & mouth and inhale to clear passageways & promote normal respiratory function
Apply to temples & neck to relieve (relax) head pressure, stress, tension (headache)
Apply to head, back of neck, shoulders and ears to cool body
Massage on stomach to aid discomfort

Contraindications (all routes): Peppermint oil should be avoided altogether in cases of cardiac fibrillation, and by people with at G6PD deficiency.

The antioxidant activity is possibly related to 1,8 cineole, menthone, and iso-menthone

Peppermint essential oil has antiviral potential. It probably acts before the virus attaches and penetrates into cells.
Peppermint increases subjective alertness, and may increase task motivation.
Pénoël and Franchomme (1990) suggest that ketones such as menthone are able to reduce mucosal secretions. Menthol and menthone have decongestant and mucolytic actions.
Menthol is also well known for creating a cooling and numbing sensation on the skin when low concentrations are applied, because ion channels are activated. Higher concentrations cause warmth, burning, and even painful sensations, as the higher concentration leads to a reversible ion channel block.
