Tea Tree, also called Melaleuca, might be one of the most well-known and recognized essential oils. It has been used medicinally throughout history by the peoples of Australia. During WWII, it was used by Australian soldiers to treat foot fungus and today, it is understood to have astringent properties as well as being an antiseptic capable of healing and disinfecting. Its uses are incredibly numerous and include head lice treatments, mites, acne, to kill fungi like athlete’s foot or nail fungus, to cleanse the home, and to aid in healing wounds and skin infections, among others. Its cleansing abilities make it a popular addition to shampoos and face washes, and it can even be found in laundry detergents.
One way to make use of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties is to use it to cleanse the skin and reduce acne. Simply dilute it with your favorite carrier oil and apply it to the areas that concern you, keeping away from eyes and mucous membranes. It can also be diluted and applied to the feet, especially between the toes, to help reduce fungus and foot smell. You can add it to a home-made spritz to freshen up and deodorize. There are so many uses for Tea Tree, it truly is a must-have item for any in-home medicine cabinet.

Airborne Antimicrobial
Tea Tree is well suited to diffusion as an aerial antiseptic. It has an outstanding effect against a wide spectrum of microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus species (including MRSA), dermatophytes and Candida species
Analgesic
Tea Tree can reduce pain. Two of its significant components—terpinen-4-ol and 1,8 cineole—have antiinflammatory and antinociceptive actions
Antibacterial
Edward-Jones et al. (2004) demonstrated that the vapors of Tea Tree in conjunction with Geranium were the most active against MRSA of all the oils and combinations investigated.
It reduces the number of lesions. The components, including terpinen-4-ol, α-terpineol, and α-pinene, are active against Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes.
Tea Tree oil has excellent potential in the treatment of acne because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions.
Antifungal
Tea Tree is active against dermatophytes, and can be blended synergistically with Lavender.
It is also active against clinical Candida species, as is its component 1,8 cineole
These data provide further in vitro evidence that TTO and its derivative components, specifically T-4-ol, exhibit strong antimicrobial properties against fungal biofilms.
Our findings demonstrate that TTO possesses antifungal activity against filamentous fungi associated with IFIs; furthermore that negligible effects on whole tissues, in contrast to individual cells, were observed following exposure to TTO. Collectively, these findings indicate a potential use of TTO as topical treatment of IFIs.
All tea tree oil components, except beta-myrcene, had antifungal activity. Showed good activity against candida
Antihistamine
Tea Tree essential oil and terpinen-4-ol can suppress histamine release and cytokine production, which cause allergic symptoms.
Tea Tree and terpinen-4-ol can alleviate allergies by suppressing histamine release and cytokine production
Results: This is the first study to show experimentally that tea tree oil can reduce histamine‐induced skin inflammation.
Anti-inflammatory
Terpinen-4-ol has anti-inflammatory action.
Ramage et al. (2012) demonstrated that Tea Tree’s principal component, terpinen-4-ol, reduced the expression of interleukin-8, a major inflammatory mediator in oropharyngeal candidiasis. They also suggested that there may be a synergistic effect between eugenol in Clove oil and terpinen-4-ol.
Antioxidant
Antispasmodic
Terpinen-4-ol is anti-inflammatory and also antispasmodic.
Antiviral
Tea Tree oil has an inhibitory effect on a subtype of H1N1, and shows promise in the treatment of influenza, having replication at non-cytotoxic concentrations.
Mixtures of some monoterpenes in Tea Tree oil have significantly greater antiviral action and lower toxicity than individual isolated monoterpenes
Expectorant
One of the components, 1,8 cineole, has an expectorant effect.
Vasodilator
Terpinen-4-ol induces smooth muscle relaxation resulting in hypotensive effects.

I have tried many other tea tree oils and nothing compares to this! Great quality tea tree. I use a drop in my shampoo to help my psoriasis. It also works for dandruff. I put one drop in my face lotion to calm my acne and it works great.

I mix it with water in a spray bottle and will take it camping with me. I am hoping it does what people claim it does and keeps mosquitos away! I’ll update when I come back from my trip but it is a decent size and doesn’t smell completely manufactured.

I’m not well educated in the world of essential oils, which is why I was looking for more affordable options to get started with. This seems great to me. The smell is amazing, I love using it in my diffuser.

When my kids were small I used tea tree oil shampoo in their hair. In my son’s first grade class there were only 3 kids who did not get head lice. Guess what we all used? Tea tree oil. Now at my kids school the head lice is going around terrible. So I rub a couple drops of oil into the if hair brushes. Our oldest is 8 in 3rd grade and no head lice sof far. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we make it through school without having to go through head lice.

This oil was not overly oily and it DID PASS the blotter test and dried clear. I find this to be a good, high quality therapeutic grade oil with a wonderful smell and works well when used in a solution to clean my counters. It also leaves the house smelling super good afterwards. I will definitely buy this again.

This oil is great! I will add a few drops to my shampoo ESPECIALLY in the winter time when it is dry to help with my dry skin. I have eczema and skin dryness problems and I have been using this to help, and so far I really like it!

It’s great! I bought it to spray on my daughters bag in case of a lice breakout. But the smell! Yum! I really feel like this is a high quality product and I wish I had bought my other oils through them. I need to find more uses for this!

Great product like other pure essential oils from high end companies but at a fraction of the cost. Works just as well as other companies and has a pure clean tea tree smell. Love it!

I put a few drops in my diffuser which is located in our sitting room. The Tea Tree smell is refreshing and helps to clear a stuffy head, or helps clear a headache quicker.

Every order I place is shipped quickly, packaged well and the order is correct. The oils are high quality and I highly recommend this company. I have stopped using all other company’s since I started using Davina products.
